Franchise Readiness Assessment

Who this is for

Founders and managing directors with at least one proven New Zealand site — café, retail, education, home services, or similar — who are considering selling franchise rights for the first time. It also suits multi-site company-owned operators who want an independent view before converting company stores into franchises.

Result you leave with

A written readiness opinion with one of three outcomes: ready to franchise, ready after a defined set of fixes, or not yet — grow company-owned first. The report includes a sequenced work plan, estimated effort for each gap, and a draft brief you can take to a franchise lawyer.

What is included

  • Discovery call and review of financial summaries, lease notes, and current SOPs (you keep originals; we work from redacted packs if preferred)
  • One on-site or video walkthrough of a flagship store focused on tasks a franchisee would inherit
  • Unit economics stress test for a quiet quarter, including royalty and marketing levy scenarios
  • Brand consistency check across menus, uniforms, supplier lists, and customer promises
  • Legal readiness checklist (disclosure timing, IP ownership, employment vs contractor patterns) — not formal legal advice
  • Facilitation workshop with up to four of your leaders
  • Final report and a 90-minute debrief

What is excluded

Drafting of the franchise agreement, Franchise Disclosure Document filings, franchisee advertising spend, and recruitment screening. Those sit in later consultations or with your solicitor.

Provider and delivery

Led by a ScaleHouse franchise consultant with support from an operations analyst. Meetings run from our Christchurch office at Level 9, 75 Hereford Street, or online for operators outside Canterbury. Site visits within the South Island are included in the fee; North Island visits are quoted separately for travel.

Process and timeline

  1. Week 1 — Pack review and discovery workshop
  2. Week 2 — Site observation, financial modelling, gap analysis
  3. Week 3 — Report drafting, internal QA, and debrief session

Preparation

Please share twelve months of site-level P&L (or closest available), current staff roster patterns, supplier agreements you are free to disclose, and any draft franchise materials already written. No special software is required.
